Sailing

sailracing image

Sailracing is a game of continious adaptation to continious change of conditions in order to get the boat to finish as efficient as possible against a fleet, over a series of races (so not always just win!) Mastery of coaching this ,sport‘, demands a high quality vision on this disciplin with it’s physical, chemical, psycholical systems, principles and mechanics.
And of course this demands quite some disiplined work if you want to exel in this.

Coachworks derives from a long, multiclass coaching experience to help you progress towards your sailing goal; whether this is an Olympic medal, a Volvo Ocean race win, or an enjoyable club race win.

If you’re interested in improving your sailracing, feel free to contact us. In most cases we agree a trail period with the customer and if this works out for both parties, we’ll continue to work towards exellence in ‘the art of sailracing’.
Coachworks can and will deliver better results!

On Water

Rigo on his Rib

If you want to improve sailracing you need to spent a ‘serious’ amount of time on the water.
Nowadays, a successful medal winning campaign is not just a full time activity for 4 or more years, but it’s succes also heavily depends on experienced support staff in order to optimise every hour on and off the water during that time.
Rigo de Nijs has a long time record of supporting many successful Olympic - and Volvo Ocean Race campaigns.
For every sailor or campaign our cooperation starts with an assesment, preferably during training and racing.
From there the coaching process starts and the road to improvement and exellence commences.
Coachworks can provide all sorts of support on the water; whether it is optimizing boathandling, fine tuning equipment, tactical/strategical advise, etcetera.

Consulting

Rigo on his Rib

Many organisations like federations, sailing schools, clubs, or professional campaigns want to check if the process they‘ve chosen is the right way to achieve their goals.
Someties they need help finding realistic goals and strategies to set up their organisations.
Coachworks can provide in this need, since Rigo has worked many years in many different organisations, clubs, campaigns, countries and that at different levels. This provides him now with a experience founded and independend insight on potential succes, failure or fierce bottlenecks.
An organisation’s succes in reaching whatever goal, structure or function it has, depends largely on the culture of norms and values amongst the people. What are these? How can you control these? Which people are keyforces in this process? These are some of the questions Coachworks will raise and find you some of your answers.

Coaches Development

coaches development

Ever since I started coaching actively myself, I was always involved in ‘improvement’. Whether this was about my own coaching or about collegue coaches never really mattered. At that time questioning everything, grew into an basic attitude or value in the teams that I worked with and never gave it any thought. Over the years of course occasionally I attended the more official frontal class situations, but to be honest those weren’t the big revelations.
ISAF (international sailing federation) nowadays acknowledges that most professional topcoaches have developed themselves most on the job while being influenced by senior or collegues coaches in and out their own discipline. My best experiences with developing junior coaches in Danmark was indeed done this way, putting them to work under supervision.
Coachworks can provide a network of senior coaches for out-placements where on the job experience can be obtained while developing one’s own vision on the sport. Of course the straight forward content for a coaching education can also be developed or provided.

Lectures

coachworks lectures

One of the people that influenced me most once claimed that if I wanted to become a great coach, I should write a book about how to ‘educate’ an optimist sailor into a AC winner. Of course when being told that I could never do that I started.
And yes, of course I‘m still on it and not finished by a long shot.

This did however, provide me with a nice selection of lectures which can be customised for several different audiences ranging from young school kids till ‘old school’ yacht owners.
